Another Week, Another Tech!

With opening night tomorrow I can’t help but feel that I am perpetually in tech week. There were four productions this semester and I participated in three of them. I feel constantly exhausted. It feels like it's been months since I’ve gotten the proper amount of sleep to sustain the lifestyle of a musical theatre major.

I am extremely excited about Thanksgiving break because it means I might finally catch my breath. Of course I am also excited to see my parents again since I haven't been home since the summer. I think a big hug from them might solve most of my problems. We are flying to Kansas to see my grandma so I’m hoping the week is relaxing enough to rejuvenate me.

Immediately after we get back from break we dive into tech week for the second weekend of shows in Lima. These rehearsals are especially exhausting because they include travel time to Lima as well. The nights are sure to be extremely long and sleep will be hard to find. 

Nonetheless I am so excited to open this show tomorrow night. Ironically it's less tiring to actually perform a show than it is to rehearse it. The “ONU Holiday Spectacular” is such a beloved show that the energy will be electric every night. I can't wait to feel the buzz of the audience. It will feel great to finally show people what we have worked so hard on.

Wish me luck going into the final dress rehearsal tonight. The whole company is so talented and I can't wait to share the stage with them for the next two weeks. Hopefully if you wanted to see it you already got your tickets because we are completely sold out for the Ada shows. I hope to see you there!

    Hopefully the much-needed Thanksgiving break can help you catch up on sleep from the action-packed semester you've had so far! Wishing the cast good luck on their upcoming performances!

    Thanksgiving break coming up is exciting as it is always a nice way to relax and get your mind off of school. I hope break goes well and I am wishing you guys good luck on the upcoming performances

    Break a leg tonight! You are going to kill it! I also cannot wait to sleep and just rest when I get home for break because this process has been completely exhausting. I think we all need some sleep! I also agree that just getting a hug from my parents will make my life 10x better. See you tonight. Can't wait for the first show!

    Yay! I am so happy that we get to be in this show together and I am looking forward to opening night tonight! Thankgiving break will break the much deserved rest we all need. You have absolutely killed it this semester with all of the productions you have been apart of! Looking forward to taking this show to Lima!

Thanksgiving in Kansas!

Last week’s break was exactly what I needed. I had been feeling extremely anxious and overwhelmed leading up to it. There were so many things going on with my classes and the “ONU Holiday Spectacular” that I felt I couldn't catch a break. Thankfully a week off gave me some much-needed rest and recovery.  My grandpa passed away last month so we decided to visit my grandma in Kansas for Thanksgiving. Since they live so far away we don’t see this side of my family very often. My grandma seemed sad but I think having people in the house really helped her. She also has two cats to keep her company. Their names are Shadow and Skittlefritz. We spent two days relaxing with her before heading over to my aunt's house for Thanksgiving. My grandma is in a phase where she is giving away all her jewelry so all of us cousins got a nice surprise when we arrived. Swinging On!

Being a swing for the “ONU Holiday Spectacular” has been the most challenging and rewarding thing I have ever done. A swing is someone who learns multiple tracks in a show and is prepared to perform them with little notice if one of the original actors cannot. For this show I swing all of the female ensemble roles. This is around 15 tracks. It can be very challenging to know everyone’s choreography and their specific placements for every number. Each girl has a different partner and lifts that I am supposed to know how to do. I am also in the ensemble for this show so I need to know all of this and my own track as well. I have been spending a lot of time practicing in case I need to go on. Yesterday I got a text from the stage manager telling me to be ready to perform the entire track of one of the senior girls at that night's rehearsal.
