Dead Week?

As a musical theatre major at ONU the grind never stops. On Sunday the company of the “ONU Holiday Spectacular” completed their final weekend of shows. This was a crazy weekend and an amazing way to say goodbye to such a beloved process.

Monday night we had our annual end-of-semester gathering to say goodbye to everyone. This party is always super interesting because the requirement for coming is that everyone has to bring a dip! If you don't bring a dip you don't get to eat. People bring all sorts of crazy concoctions but they all end up being edible and usually very good. My roommate and I always bring a dip we call “Puddin’ Thang” which is essentially just pudding and whipped cream.

On Tuesday we started the weeklong process of auditioning for next semester's shows. This always takes place during dead week of every semester. Unfortunately for us that takes away from the relaxing aspect that is usually associated with dead week. Our first night of auditions was the first round of singing and acting. Then on Wednesday we had around 4 hours of dance calls for the musical and the dance show. I am very sore this morning. Now we are waiting to receive the call-back lists for these shows. They are supposed to be posted sometime today.

If we receive a callback we will have more auditions on Friday and Saturday. The final cast lists are supposed to be posted on Wednesday of finals week. This makes for a very stressful last few weeks of school before break. I didn't even have time to worry about auditions this year because I had been so busy. Life is crazy but I wouldn't change it for the world. I love being a musical theatre major and this hectic rush is part of the fun. Now I just have to survive finals week and I can finally sleep. Wish me luck!

  1. Being a musical theatre major sounds stressful but also lots of fun!

  2. I wish I could expand the week and find room for everything. Our major definitely goes unnoticed as very stress inducing, not even really mentally but all of the physical work we pour in is very intense.
